Period close shows out-of-balance journals in Workday Financials

Problem

Trial balance and journal totals disagree during close, blocking the period from being closed.

Solution

Compare the Trial Balance report against Find Journals with the same book code and ledger, then reconcile intercompany and currency revaluation entries.

Out-of-balance conditions at close usually come from three places: intercompany entries that only posted on one side, currency revaluation that ran against a stale rate, or journals sitting in an unposted status.

Run the Trial Balance report and Find Journals for the same company, ledger, and book code, then compare totals by ledger account. The variance will normally isolate to one or two accounts, which points you directly at the source transaction type.

Once identified, reverse and repost the offending journals rather than editing them, so that your audit trail stays intact. Then re-run the close checklist and confirm the Close Ledger Period task no longer raises the exception.
